Greyed-Out "Create" button in New Cell Library

Using Microstation Connect Edition, I am trying to create a new cell library.  I have Created a new library, named it, saved it and it is ready for new cells.  The Create Cell Button is greyed out.  When I highlight the elements that I want to turn into a cell, the create cell button is still greyed out.

I should note that this is a freshly updated and installed version of Connect as we were using V8i previously.

I am trying to take cells from other libraries and import them into this new library for our designers.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

  • Do you have permissions to edit files in the directory where you have stored your cells?

A cell library is simply a DGN file will a collection of models, which are the cells. If you need to copy cells from one library to another, you can open the container *.cel file as any other DGN and use the Models dialog to Import your cell models from any other files.

In a similar fashion, you can actually open the *.cel file, create a new model, and draw your desired linework. Just make sure that, in the model properties, you have "can be placed as cell" checked on, and that you place your linework so that your desired origin is located at xy = 0,0.

Since Bentley changed cell libraries to DGNs with models (at least V8i), I haven't used that old "create cell" ever.

  • also - make sure you have a fence and an origin defined for grouping the elements, or the create button will not be enabled.
