I am working in a 2D drawing, but I have tried it in 3D model but I get mixed results when I reference it in the 2d sheet view.

Can a 2D drawing HAVE an isometric view? Are you using the Isometric lock? Are you using active angles? I'm not sure what method you use to get what you are showing us.
In your text style dialog, General tab, you can turn on the checkbox for "Italics" and that allows you access to the "Slant" option. That may be part of your solution. You could then use that style for your dimensions.

I see there are some old fonts, ISO_FONT LEFT (30) and ISO_FONTRIGHT (31).
But as Mary says, you can adjust the slant with any text by changing the Slant. It accepts negative values as well (it didn't used to). Also if you label the stuff in true plan, when you create the iso it should iso the text as well.
