Custom Line Styles in Reference Appear Different from Parent Model in Read-Only File

Hello!

We have a file where one model is referenced into another within the same file.  All [custom] line styles shown in the reference are completely different styles than how they appear in the parent model.  This is only the case when the file is opened Read-Only.

  • There are no outside references that would affect this.
  • Re-importing line styles from the resource file does not fix it.
  • Level overrides are not being used, nor would they change the line style if it were to be set.
  • MS_SYMBRSRC is as it should be.
  • Compressing the file does not fix it.
  • I am unable to share the file.  [EDIT: see GNN.dgn in later post.]

Any idea what would be causing this?  It's unknown how old the seed file is that was used or if it began from a fresh DGN file.  For now, presume it isn't corrupt.

The file appears and can be printed fine if it isn't opened read-only.  The question is what's causing it in the first place?  This is an odd problem we haven't seen before.  It seems like one other forum post (118811) had the same problem, however it was left unanswered.

Thanks!

    Sorry, MicroStation V8i SS10 Version 8.11.09.919.

I tried to strip everything down as best as I could.  See attached.  The DETAIL model appears correct to me.  The SHEET model is the one giving me problems.

I'm not sure what you mean copy it from the reference into the parent since it's the same line; but although it appears different in the reference, hovering over it shows the correct level, and using Match Element Attributes (Alt+Click) on any line makes the correct symbology active and not the symbology that's shown on screen.  It's the same file in case you thought the reference was placed in another file.

    Tim:

Yeah, opening it regularly makes everything appear and print fine.  If someone were to open and print read-only either through MicroStation or Print Organizer, It prints as shown in the screenshot above.  (I am aware of the "Open as Read-Only" preference in Print Organizer.)

Read-Only setting's from the operating system.  Right-click the file > Properties > check "Read-Only".  (Same as if we were to open it Read Only in ProjectWise)

  • It's very likely that this file started in AutoCAD since I see a "CONTINUOUS" line style.  If that's the case, is there a fix besides just redoing the thing or copying it into a fresh seed, some sort of tool or macro or something to clean the AutoCAD out of it?  (Original question also remains--Is there something noticeably wrong I'm missing without thinking it's an AutoCAD issue?)

  • Is the Detail View model supposed to have the Annotation Scale set to 1:960?

Also, looking at the model properties of the Detail model the line style scale is set to "Global Line Style Scale". This means the custom line styles will not react to Annotation Scale settings.

Your Sheet model's annotation scale is set Full Size 1 = 1

This could account for the discrepancy in the line style scales.

How are you setting your scales of the custom line styles?

We don't have access to your line style library to test anything and we just see solid lines

  • I am not seeing any of the custom linestyles - do you have the resource they came from ?

  • I forgot how line styles don't work they way everything else does in MicroStation.  Try this:

    LS.rsc

    MWLong:

    • Annotation scale of both models are supposed to be as they're shown.
    • Global Line Style Scale and Annotation Scale are okay as they're set.  The issue as seen in the screenshot is with the Line Style Types being shown different than what they say they are, not with the line style scales.  Thanks though!
