Custom Line Styles in Reference Appear Different from Parent Model in Read-Only File

Hello!

We have a file where one model is referenced into another within the same file.  All [custom] line styles shown in the reference are completely different styles than how they appear in the parent model.  This is only the case when the file is opened Read-Only.

  • There are no outside references that would affect this.
  • Re-importing line styles from the resource file does not fix it.
  • Level overrides are not being used, nor would they change the line style if it were to be set.
  • MS_SYMBRSRC is as it should be.
  • Compressing the file does not fix it.
  • I am unable to share the file.  [EDIT: see GNN.dgn in later post.]

Any idea what would be causing this?  It's unknown how old the seed file is that was used or if it began from a fresh DGN file.  For now, presume it isn't corrupt.

The file appears and can be printed fine if it isn't opened read-only.  The question is what's causing it in the first place?  This is an odd problem we haven't seen before.  It seems like one other forum post (118811) had the same problem, however it was left unanswered.

Thanks!

  • You really need to include the version of MicroStation.

Can you create a file that has the problem that is shareable? For example, saving the file & references as a new files, deleting everything from both files except a couple of the lines that demonstrate the problem.

If you copy the line that looks wrong from the reference into the parent does it suddenly become correct?

  • if the file is opened when it is NOT read only, everything is fine ?

where is the read only setting coming from ? the option in the microstation manager ? or is this from the OS ? etc...

  • Kevin:

    Sorry, MicroStation V8i SS10 Version 8.11.09.919.

I tried to strip everything down as best as I could.  See attached.  The DETAIL model appears correct to me.  The SHEET model is the one giving me problems.

I'm not sure what you mean copy it from the reference into the parent since it's the same line; but although it appears different in the reference, hovering over it shows the correct level, and using Match Element Attributes (Alt+Click) on any line makes the correct symbology active and not the symbology that's shown on screen.  It's the same file in case you thought the reference was placed in another file.

    Tim:

Yeah, opening it regularly makes everything appear and print fine.  If someone were to open and print read-only either through MicroStation or Print Organizer, It prints as shown in the screenshot above.  (I am aware of the "Open as Read-Only" preference in Print Organizer.)

Read-Only setting's from the operating system.  Right-click the file > Properties > check "Read-Only".  (Same as if we were to open it Read Only in ProjectWise)

  • It's very likely that this file started in AutoCAD since I see a "CONTINUOUS" line style.  If that's the case, is there a fix besides just redoing the thing or copying it into a fresh seed, some sort of tool or macro or something to clean the AutoCAD out of it?  (Original question also remains--Is there something noticeably wrong I'm missing without thinking it's an AutoCAD issue?)
