I quite often find I need to move the dimension text from where it is put automatically. No matter what the default settings are, this can always happen.
So I use the "Modify Element" tool and click on a 'snap' point of the dimension text. However this doesn't become the base point for the text discplacement. If it were I could be able to select eg. the bottom center of the dimension text, move it with ACS locked horizontal and snap to the mid point of the dimension line. Now instead I have to more or less try to get it in the middle, as I show in the attached video.
Is there another existing way that would make this go easier?
Please confirm the version being used.
You also mentioned "No matter what the default settings are" have you tried changing the Dimension Styles 'Fit Options' for the Text Style, prior to placement. (Or modify post placement)
May be create a new Dimension Style with the Text/Terminator set to 'Text Inside' for example, then use the Change Text tool to apply the New Dimension Style to the Selected Elements. (Alternatively change the existing Style and update all the Dimensions)
Using OBD U9.1, based on MS CE U16.2.
Yes, I tried changing the fit options. They only determine which is the position of the "text" at the time of placing the dimension (or changing the dimension style). Not the manual repositioning.
I also tried changing the "Format" options in the "Text" tab:
Also those options only have an influence on the text position on placement, not when manually changing the text position.
I found that the "attachment" point for the text when repositioning is always the end of the 'Leader' end:
Even when the leader is set to "None", but then it seems impossible to move the dim text to another position than along the dimension line ...
what about setting text to centre centre and when you want to modify make your snap set to centre

Hi Lorys,
Thank you for the reply, but I'm afraid it's not working. I can set my text style to "Center->Center" but not the dimension style, see attached screen video. I'll explain what you see:
As you'll see in step 2. there is some kind of justification setting in the dimension style that doesn't allow a "center-center" value. I think this overrides the justification setting of the text style?
Hi Johan,
So basically, are you essentially wanting what Revit does i.e. a distinguishable snap back to the mid-point of the dimension line?
