[U17] Loft surface can't be used with trim surface tool

Attached is a sample file created in Metrostation workset. A lofted surface was created, but it cannot be use with the "trim surface" tool. I have to drop the parametric surface to a smart surface for it to work with the "trim surface" tool. Is that WAD?

  • Thanks for providing the example file containing the element produced from the Loft By Surface tool. I'm thinking that due to the type of element being a Parametric Surface to be why the Trim By Surface tool not working properly. I will investigate further and advise of the outcome.

  • Apologies for the delay in response to your issue. I have been discussing this with our developers.

They have mentioned that it was decided to restrict the legacy solid modeling tools from operating on parametric solids / surfaces so that parametric solids / surfaces do not loose their parametric behavior and that you should only use the parametric tools for modification of this type of element. The decision means that these capabilities were disabled for the Trim Surface tool as it can work on solid elements also.

We do not have tool which can trim surface keeping parametric behavior. Parametric behavior is lost using many other tools (like extend surface, change surface normal, fillet surface ) We may restrict parametric surfaces to use legacy surface tools when tools are ready with parametric behavior.
