Well, I finally had a chance to check out the 2023 version. It seems the functionality has at least been restored to what it was prior to the introduction of Table Styles. There are still outstanding issues with importing Excel files and using the Excel formatting. At least it works again. I still need to check exactly what the Table Styles are but for now, I am just glad the tool is usable again

Had no issues before U15 on same machine so something was changed in Microstation which broke already working connection.

Here are some notes about 'bitness'. MicroStation CONNECT is a 64-bit app. If you want compatability with Microsoft Office, then you should uninstall 32-bit Office and install 64-bit Office. Unfortunately, Microsoft makes you jump over some obstacles to achieve that goal.

repair didn't help. Not sure where is problem as it reads worksheet names properly.

Strange it shows that Excel is 32-bit.

You might try repairing the install of Office products on your machine.

Same. Not using tables or creating workflows involving tables until this is resolved. When Microstation 2023 will be released(in year 2024?) then would expect to be fixed otherwise the 2023 version milestone is about nothing.

Agree... it was working quite well before. The most disappointing part of all is the fact that this has been an issue for THREE versions of microstation now!!! Placing table data linked to an excel file is such a common thing people need to do that affects so many different fields and disciplines. I really hope they fix it soon.

EDIT: if everyone reading this could submit a new ticket on the issue maybe that will help bring it to the top of their to-do list

It's a shame that the Place Table tool is broken. It has a lot of potential. I had a lot of processes worked out for bringing in linked Excel files.

This is how it works for Bentley. A new "Technology preview" feature is introduced which is almost usable and then it gets abandoned even that lot of issues are reported and then later move to Commercial Release without noticeable changes. Like WMS/WMTS, PDF vector import, Items, Constraints and some more. Critical issues(crashes) are maybe fixed but change requests have to wait for loooong.

Regarding Tables most likely all the previous bugs are lost when moving to new "Technology preview" Support portal. So best is to report it again so it gets new case number.

Can someone at Bentley tell us when this is going to be fixed? This has been an issue for three versions of Microstation now:17.0, 17.1, & 17.2. It has made it so that we cannot link to an excel file and properly control the formatting... making the tool useless. Really a shame as the tool worked very well in proior versions : (

The point is to use a table seed but, there are a few issues with it that need to be resolved so it function properly. Hopefully Bentley can get the issues resolved and release an updated version soon, not in 5 or 10 years.

What is the point of having a Table Seed if you can't keep the formatting in it when the table is refreshed? I don't want to have to use the No Seed option because then I will need to modify the formatting for all 400+ sheets that get updated through a batch processing command.

Yes, I saw that come through yesterday. It seems that is specific to the From Report mode. I have not been working with any reports to create tables. We mainly use Excel files. Using reports would be future development.

There really shouldn't be ANYTHING extra to set in the installation that is not systemic to the installation. That is NOT where something as isolated as "Table Styles" belongs.

As mentioned by others, CAD Admins are not often the ones installing the software. IT installs the software, and IT does not involve itself in the daily operation of that software (many of them could care less about specifics). CAD admins set up and maintain the software configuration - and may not even have the permissions to change the installation.

Configuration is done through configuration variables. it should NOT be done through installation unless there is a VERY good reason (and "table styles" is not it). That change also needs to be Announced and Documented, even for "previews".

Totally agree. One of the biggest issues with the delivered training materials is that Bentley uses small datasets. They are not based on real world scenarios. The Place Table tool is an exception to that fact. The issue with the Place Table tool training material is that it does not cover all aspects of the options available.
