Hi Everybody,
I have a DGN file with some graphics from cell files. As the picture below, in Element Information window I can see its cell name. However, it doesn't show from which cell file it is from. We have many cell files in the folder and some cell names may be in multiple cell files. Is there a way for me to find out which cell file it is from?
Thank you!
Sui
The cell library information is not stored anywhere and hence cannot be retrieved. In the latest MicroStation Connect version you have options to add attributes as Item Types where the Cell Library name can be stored. Add additional attributes that you wish to retrieve/report.
A good practice is to have unique cell names in a project.

Thank you for the information, Leonard!
The librarie could be anything or anywhere, even from third party, so that can be hard to figure out. Like Leonard explained; it is not stored.
However... If the cell is yours and it is located in a library that is part of MS_CELL, then you can find it back.
Assign this KeyIn to [ALT + datapoint]
MATCH ELEMENT FROM CURSOR
Then ALT+click on the cell in your drawing. It will display the location in the statusbar below if the cell is part of MS_CELL. This cell also becomes the active cell so you can start placing it from the library using the place cell tool right away.

My method is a bit after the horse has bolted but there is a free MDL tool call cell tool, it will let you print out books of cells graphically in microstation cell lib by cell lib you can then make multipage pdfs and in each page it lists cell name and file as well as what it looks like . and an added benifit is it can make csv lists of cell lib content so you could also search the finished excel file for by name and find the library.. but its only as good as you created it so new unlisted cells are not known...

Some help may be on the way. Mstn 17 has a tech preview of Auto-update for Parametric Cells. This should be available for normal Graphic and Shared Cells as well. Please vote here if you agree.
