Most Recently Used Commands

Is there a shortcut to display the Most Recently Used Commands?  Or, a way to add this?

For example; In other CAD software that I use I can program the middle mouse button to display "Most Recently Used" pop-up where I can easily re-select previous commands.

  • Hi Bradley,

No, this functionality doesn't exist in MicroStation. Traditionally, MicroStation is more GUI reliant for user input than AutoCAD, where most users I've known prefer keyboard input over icons, so we tend to have very quick access to commands via icons anyway. No doubt some users would welcome to option to have this but I don't know if there is any plans for it to be implemented into CONNECT at some point.

  • Bradly, have you tried using the pop-up context menus in Connect? I have the most frequently used commands/tools on mine for quick reference.

I use the wheel button for tentative snap, so these tools pop up when I do a slow click on the reset button.

  • Hi Bradly,

As mentioned by others Mstn's UI does not provide command line dialog that records each user command.

    1. Commands: Mstn does have a key-in panel, which does allow you to scroll back to replay previous commands. But it only does this for commands that are key in in the panel. This contrasts with AutoCAD's command line which does capture commands triggered by icons. Rhino does the same thing. It would be good to put an idea in the Mstn Ideas portal.

Mstn's Message Center does not record any commands, I think it is designed to display messages that the coder includes in his code, typically after exiting. It also has a debugger mode, but I dont think the info is very useful for the user.

    2. Coordinates: The Accudraw Window also records keyins, which are coordinates. And does record previous key-ins... but no commands.

    3. Selections: Choose Previous gets you the previous selection, But I dont think it records more than one selection. Another Idea?

    4. Views: View Previous / Next does allow you to undo/redo view settings. An idea would be to enhance the key in to jump back by a number?

There is also the Macro recorder... but that does not run continually.. but it does generate usable command text.

Similar to a recent post on undo/redo... it would be good to enhance the command line, or aggregate Mstn's multiple tool-centric 'command lines'.

    5. Settings: Modo's Toolpipe is one of the more powerful examples of recording and reusing commands. Even just a simple recording or snapshot the tools settings would be helpful.

PDMS, FreeCAD, OnShape etc also have interesting console type functionality.

  • There is a filed enhancement 662783: Add Most Frequently and Most Recently Used Commands Pop-up Menu. I suggest creating a new Service Request and mentioning this enhancement so that you could receive updates.
