[CE] Need Detailed Explanation of How Font Symbol Favorites Function

We are trying to use the file MstnFontConfig.xml to standardize on a specific set of fonts. We also would like to setup standard favorite symbols for many of these fonts. I have tried modifying particular fonts  in that file to add some special characters thinking they would then appear as favorites. Apparently, that's not how it works.

And manually adding favorites seems to use the font that was used when creating the favorite as opposed to the active font. In some instances, users can mix fonts, but in other cases, we need the font to remain consistent throughout the text element and would like favorites that are tied to the font they represent.

Is this possible and if so how?

And how does one setup shared symbol favorites?

TIA

  • And how does one setup shared symbol favorites?

I modified my local copy of MstnFontConfig.xml and placed a copy in our common workspace. The favorites are available to all users. Making edits to that dile in the workspace share is not easy. I made one attempt, which failed. It's been a long time since I looked at it. They are tied to the front that was used to create them because I believe the unicode may be specific to that font. Not sure though.

  • We do setup a custom version of this in our workspace, so my edits are immediately available to all. This does not seem to drive the favorites directly however, It might allow a common reference to shared symbols which are not located under the same code in different fonts, but there is scant documentation of how any of that might work. I did discover a preference XML file that appears to be where favorites are saved, but that  is not setup in a manner that suggests it as a shared resource - it being found in the users profile area.
