Is Geopak SS10 compatible with MicroStation CONNECT?

One of the Users in my Department needs to upgrade his MicroStation to a more recent version to utilize the CONNECTION Client. However, the most recent (and only) available version of MicroStation is the CONNECT Edition off the Bentley software download center since MicroStation v8i SS10 is no longer available for distribution.

I previously saved the Geopak SS10 software on a flashdrive for future use, and the User is currently planning on using this software. Our department doesn't have experience using OpenRoads Designer so our design team wanted to utilize Geopak SS10 for this upcoming design season.

I previously read that Geopak SS10 is only compatible with MicroStation SS10. This makes sense, but I'm hoping that the new CONNECT Edition of MicroStation is backwards compatible? I haven't used Geopak before so I'm not too familiar with its use/need.

TLDR: Can Geopak SS10 communicate with the newest MicroStation CONNECT Edition?

Thank you.

  • I need clarity on what you have posted. You are asking if MicroStation is compatable with GeoPak and I believe this is the wrong question to be asking.

Technically MSV8i and MS Connect are the same file format and can be opened in either version. So as long as someone using strictly MicroStation works on the file, GeoPak should be able to open it and work on it.

Now if someone using the OpenRoads product (which is a Connect version of the civil products) works on a file, then the answer is - no - Geopak will not be able to open the file and work on it.
