How to turn off markers only in referenced files?

Is it possible to turn off markers in referenced files? I use files with many references, which have their own markers. I want them to be turned off, as I don't need them at the moment.

  • Hello Grzegorz,

I have had similar question quite a while ago. The answer is twofold:

    1. If you want to turn off all markers, both for the active file and the references, it can be done with this setting:

As long as the reference presentation is set to "From parent", the markers in the reference file(s) will follow the View Flags of the parent view.

    2.  If you want to have only the markers visible for the active file, and turn off those for the references, I'm afraid that is not possible. It is something I have been looking for as well some time ago, I believe an Enhancement was filed for it. But I can't find the number.

I created a new MS Idea: View flag for "markers" in reference | MicroStation Ideas Portal (aha.io). In case you are interested, feel free to vote.

  • How will that help for the reference files?

It doesn't, and I'm not sure why anyone would even think of using those key-ins in a batch script either, especially when a more palatable syntax is available

    set markers off; selview all

  • I didnt  know about  the " set markers off"   keyin ... thanks barry  I'll add it to my collection...

So moving  on use barry's script in  a batch processor script and apply it by adding all your ref  files to the batch

but if your like most of use we either have refs in a custom folder or use a naming convention to see xrefs

  • Most (if not all) of the View attributes are accessible using the that keyin by swapping in the appropriate attribute name (use the Keyin browser to get the actual name). Most can be set to ON|OFF|TOGGLE, but not all have the Toggle Setting. I mentioned the keyin as its something you can easily remember.

The problem with your suggestion is that it doesn't work; batch turning off view attributes within files which are reference files, makes no difference as those View Attributes don't pass through when they are attached into another file. Even when making a Saved View with Markers turned off in one of those files, then attaching that file using the Saved View, the markers still appear. There really is no solution the no solution to having markers in reference files not appear (without affecting the display of those in the active file).

I had a suspicion that was going to be the case... another  reason not to use them turned on.

But  if  poster is willing to accept  off in active file all views then a  batch process will work with your  keyin  and  poster should consider  in future changing their  seed  files to not use markers

I only really used these once in my  whole microstationwork life of 30 years and  it was  interactive map to load specific pdfs... but now days  I prefer to just work with a  pdf  itself with  pdf links to other  pdf pages so its all self contained and  client doesnt need cad to open files  just adobe reader...

What I like about markers is the ability to very easily open a certain drawing/sheet based on it's position in the 3D model. Or use the "hover" over the marker to see the options for Dynamic view, display callout, ...

How do you do such things if not with markers? Maybe there is indeed another way that I (and OP) simply don't know about?
