How to turn off markers only in referenced files?

Is it possible to turn off markers in referenced files? I use files with many references, which have their own markers. I want them to be turned off, as I don't need them at the moment.

  • How will that help for the reference files?

It doesn't, and I'm not sure why anyone would even think of using those key-ins in a batch script either, especially when a more palatable syntax is available

    set markers off; selview all

  • Then you can  put the keyin onto a batch process script it ends with FILEDESIGN so it saves the setting and run it with the batch processor utility  over all the files you want it to fix

    Hi Lorys,

If I understand correctly (I'm not too familiar with batch processor), what you propose is to fix a number of files. In all of these files the script would turn off the view flag for markers, right?

How will that help for the reference files?

The situation we are looking for is that the markers remain visible for the ACTIVE design file but be turned off for the references.

  • I posted these before for other view attribute changes.....

    -----------------------------------------------snip--------------

But here are a few I just tested the part that precedes the true or false is the view attribute feature only trial and error worked for me to work out if its two words or a single word.. but true or false gives on or off.. these work great in batch process .. but remember people can switch things back on or off in the View attributes tool ( only tested in V8i SS10)

MDL KEYIN BENTLEY.VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG,VAD VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG SETATTRIBUTE 0 ClipVolume False
MDL KEYIN BENTLEY.VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG,VAD VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG SETATTRIBUTE 0 ClipVolume True
MDL KEYIN BENTLEY.VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG,VAD VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG SETATTRIBUTE 0 Fill True
MDL KEYIN BENTLEY.VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG,VAD VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG SETATTRIBUTE 0 Fill False
MDL KEYIN BENTLEY.VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG,VAD VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG SETATTRIBUTE 0 ACStriad False
MDL KEYIN BENTLEY.VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG,VAD VIEWATTRIBUTESDIALOG SETATTRIBUTE 0 ACStriad False
    ---------------------------- snip ------------------------------------

you'll have to do trial and  error for the word for MARKERS and  ends in FALSE to turn off..

Then you can  put the keyin onto a batch process script it ends with FILEDESIGN so it saves the setting and run it with the batch processor utility  over all the files you want it to fix. IMHO markers  are more trouble than they are  worth. So I have it  set to   off in my all my seed files and for all my  fellow users, perhaps you should do the same to prevent this happening again.

I hope this helps work around your  problems...

  • Hi Johan,

thank You, I gave my vote to your MS Idea.

  • 2.  If you want to have only the markers visible for the active file, and turn off those for the references, I'm afraid that is not possible. It is something I have been looking for as well some time ago, I believe an Enhancement was filed for it. But I can't find the number.

I created a new MS Idea: View flag for "markers" in reference | MicroStation Ideas Portal (aha.io). In case you are interested, feel free to vote.
