I am using Microstation V8i SELECTseries 10
Version 08.11.09.919
When I load Civtools the Message Center will say "Civtools loaded" But then I am unable to click on anything else, I eventually have to task manager > end task on microstation to be able to restart.
The only fix I have tried is I redownloaded Civtools but that did not work.
This is happening to other people in my office as well.
Hi Levi,
Sorry to hear that you are experiencing these issues. Here are some recommendations I think would be worth a try in no particular order:
1. Try opening MicroStation files with a different user/project/interface combination. Try something like "examples" User, "No Project" for Project, & "default" set for Interface.2. Try resetting prefs and deleting temp fileshttps://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/8978/how-to-reset-user-preferences-and-delete-microstation-s-temporary-files
3. Restore MicroStation to factory defaultshttps://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/8671/restore-microstation-to-factory-defaults
4. Check the version of Civtools and ensure it is compatible with the version of MicroStation you are running. If none of those steps work, do you know if there are any machines at the organization that are not experiencing the issue?
Hi Levi. Did you get to resolve the issue? We're also experiencing this now. I don't think Civtools is ready for MicroStation CONNECT Edition. Is it? Appreciate your feedback! Thanks!

Janice,
this discussion was regarding the operation of Civtools in MicroStation V8i SS10 (08.11.09.919) so is not related to MicroStation CONNECT Edition.
The CivTools application was not ported to MicroStation CONNECT Edition but a number of the tools have been included. The following MicroStation Communities Blog may be of assistance in understanding the new tools produced to replace those from the old CivTools application.

Hi Andrew! Thanks for the prompt response. I asked about MS CONNECT Edition because if we're planning to upgrade to it then we would like to know if Civtools is updated for this version or there are alternatives. Will check the link you sent for sure!
However, we are still indeed using MS V8i SS10 (08.11.09.919) and since last week users are reporting freezing MS when loading Civtools. I was wondering if this got resolved?
Thanks again.
Thanks for the clarification that you were asking about MicroStation V8i SS10. Just going from what was previously discussed by Jason, it appears that a recent Windows Update may be the problem that they identified.
"I was able to reproduce this issue as well using a v8i SS10 build. It seems like this could potentially be a Windows OS issue caused by an update, the OS version, etc."
"I would recommend to temporarily freeze all Windows updates to the working machine's OS.Second, compare the Update History on the non-working machine to the working machine (Windows Settings>Update & Security>View update history). Try uninstalling any recent updates on the non-working machine so that the history matches the working machine"
"You might try repairing your MicroStation installation via the Windows Apps & Features section while connected to a stable internet connection"
"Another thing to try would be to uninstall and then reinstall MicroStation via deployment image. I believe that a properly configured deployment image will include the prereq pack and will not need an internet connection."
You could try these suggestions from Jayson Perry or possibly raise a new Service Request and a technical support colleague could take a closer look at your system.
I would suggest identifying the tools that you have been using with this old CivTools application to see what operations and/or new tools are available to you in MicroStation CONNECT Edition. Especially since MicroStation V8i is no longer supported.
Andrew,
Correct me if I am wrong but from what I can tell this is the way all the Civtools have been replaced.
Place ContourReplaced with "Set Element Elevation" (works great and I have no issues so far)
Label ContourAppears to be replaced with "Label Terrain Model" but this requires you to have a terrian model were the Civtools tool only required the contour to have an elevation which is much more convenient
Place BreaklineI did not use this Civtool and have not looked for a replacement
Place CoordinateAs far as I can tell there is not a satisfactory commparble tool currently in Connect, yes you can use "Label Coordinate" but that does not put it into a leader and makes labeling slower, you can use the f(x) feature in the leader tool but again that is much more inconvenient.
Modify ContourReplaced with "Set Element Elevation".
Set Elevation by CrossingI do not think this is in Connect but I did not use it often so I have not needed a replacement yet
Set Element ElevationReplaced with "Set Element Elevation".
Place Spot ElevationI did not use this Civtool and have not looked for a replacement
Place Composite CurveI did not use this Civtool and have not looked for a replacement
The "Set Element Elevation" tool works really good
But the lack of the Place Coordinate tool from Civtools really needs to be addressed as the "Label Coordinate" is just not as useful or effecient as the Civtool version.
