When loading Civtools Microstation freezes. Any ideas on a fix?

I am using Microstation V8i SELECTseries 10

Version 08.11.09.919

When I load Civtools the Message Center will say "Civtools loaded" But then I am unable to click on anything else, I eventually have to task manager > end task on microstation to be able to restart.

The only fix I have tried is I redownloaded Civtools but that did not work.

This is happening to other people in my office as well.

  • Due to how our custom workspaces are configured, I was not finding CivTools.rsc in this location:
    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace\System\data

On a computer where CivTools was working, I opened MicroStation w/o using a custom workspace - then CivTools.rsc was created

I copied the CivTools.rsc created on the working computer - to our workspace location, made sure all users had Read/Write access

CivTools.ma is now working for all of our custom workspaces

Thanks alot for the clarification and information - it proved very helpful!

  • Hi David,

Could you please confirm what version of Windows you are currently on?

I havent had any luck with any of the fixes on this thread and was just wondering whether you are potentially on Windows 11 and this could be the reason for your success?

Iam currently on the following version:

    Thank you

  • WOW....... It's working perfectly. I have copied CivTools.rsc from my colleague system (where mdl is functioning) and copied in my system under  C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace\System\data (where is wasn't before)

For his issue, I was annoyed since last one week. tried many CivTools versions.

  • Hi Sandeep,

Was the C:\ location on the computer you copied it from the same as the C:\ location on your computer (C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace\System\data) ?

I ask this because i have tried this fix but it did not work.

The location i copied the CIvTools.rsc file from was located on a network drive and iam wondering whether that is the problem (M:\ADMIN\WorkSpace\System\data) ?

The computer i am trying to fix it on has the data folder in the same location as you.(C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace\System\data)

Are you please able to share your CIvTools.rsc file with me?

    Thank you

  • Hi Brendon,

Why don't you try with CivTool.rsc file you have currently, to be copied at C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace\System\data

Copy .rsc file from Good system to Bad System.

(Good System : where CivTools is functioning properly.)

And download CivTool.zip (available version at Bentley Community) and then unzip it.
After unzipping Zip file, copy 3 files in C:\ or server drive with specific folder location.

Then MS V8i-SS10, open any dgn file, then command window run command "mdl load"
then select above particular folder where you hv copied unzipped mdl file, select CivTools.ma.

Should work, If doesn't work then share me your email i.d. & I shall send you CivTools.rsc file from mine system.

    Cheers !!
