How to set Display Style for DrawingSeed?

Hello all,

Tested both on Openbuildings Designer 10.09.01.38 (MS 10.16.02.26) as well as ProStructures 10.07.00.79 (MS 10.17.00.209). So I decided this is the best place to ask as it is a Platform/Microstation question.

When I create a Custom Drawing Seed (in this case for a section callout, could be plan view or elevation view as well) I follow these steps: To Create a Custom Drawing Seed for a Section Callout (bentley.com). This works fine, I can control also the display style that is used for the "Clip volume settings" as shown below.

However I would also like to set the display style for the 'View 1' that opens when I create the new model:

I have set this to be the active Display Style in the DGNLIB and used save and save settings. So next time I open the DGNLIB this is the active display style. But when I create a new section, using that DGNLIB as seed, the display style always gets set to (Wireframe Display) as you see in the screenshot above, instead of the custom display style I created.

I tried with another custom Display Style, based on "Smooth" and then this is the style it is set to after creation of callout:

It appears that somehow the active Display Style of the DGNLIB is being read and something is done with it ...

Since I will be creating many drawings/views like this I would like the default to be correct, instead of having to manually change it after creation of each section. The most important issue is that my custom display style is connected with a Display Rule. It's mainly that display rule that is important to me.

Anyone have an idea how to change this behaviour? Or encountered the same and found no workaround?

  • Hi Jayson,

    thank you for your reply!

    1. Are your Display Styles & Display Rules stored in the same .dgnlib file?

Yes they are, in the file "DisplayStyles_Rebar.dgnlib"

    2. When you set the presentation for your custom Display Style FNDT-Beam - SECTION in the .dgnlib/seed, are you doing so within the regular View Attributes window or are you setting it within the Reference Presentation window?

In the file "ConcreteDrawingSeed_Metric.dgnlib" both are set:

    Reference presentation:

=> This is taken over in the newly created drawings

    View attributes:

=> This is not taken over. But as I indicated in my original post, when I change the display style in the view attributes to a "Smooth" based custom display style, the newly created drawing does have this:

While when the custom display style is based on "Wireframe" it looks like this:

So it appears that the active display style for "View 1" is considered somehow but instead of applying the complete display style, it only gives the "Render mode display" as shown in the display styles window:

You can also upload your dataset (.dgnlib, .dgn, seed files, etc.) for review by following these instructions:
    https://communities.bentley.com/help/w/be_communities_help/7079/communities-secure-file-upload

I'm attaching both DGNLib's, hoping it will be helpful.
