All of the cells in the libraries are really 3D (i.e. flat), and should just be top-view 2D cells. I thought I could use Batch Converter somehow, but I don't see a way.
Ultimately, I would like

RE: [MicroStation CE 17.1] Convert 3D Cell Library to 2D

I did export a “flat” 3D symbology lib to 2D in an older version once But i did not notice any performance difference. I find the 2D display is better. Especially if you want use the lib with the cell selector, as I still some times do. It is somewhat outdated but I it is still the only way to very quick generate a screen menue of libraries, right?

RE: [MicroStation CE 17.1] Convert 3D Cell Library to 2D

If a cell library contain massive drawing symbols in 3D model, would the conversion to 2D model make MicroStation load the library faster?

RE: [MicroStation CE 17.1] Convert 3D Cell Library to 2D

[quote userid="3866" url="~/products/microstation/f/microstation-forum/237144/microstation-ce-17-1-convert-3d-cell-library-to-2d/737465"]It brings up a more general question of whether it's possible to batch export files with multiple 3D models in one file to create another single file with the converted 2D models[/quote]

Don't hijack your own thread: post a new question!

RE: [MicroStation CE 17.1] Convert 3D Cell Library to 2D

Ron,

Thanks for confirming my thoughts that it doesn't really matter if I leave the cells as 3D.

But... It brings up a more general question of whether it's possible to batch export files with multiple 3D models in one file to create another single file with the converted 2D models. I suppose this could be a cell library or any multiple-model dgn.

RE: [MicroStation CE 17.1] Convert 3D Cell Library to 2D

Hi Josh,

FWIW:
MicroStation CONNECT Edition Help says:

Cells are used in 3D modeling in a manner similar to 2D. You can place a 2D cell in a 3D model and vice-versa. When a 3D cell is placed in a 2D model, it is placed as a Top view orientation. That is, with its X and Y design axes matching that of the 2D model's X and Y design axes.

Conversion is probably not necessary if you are trying to convert the 3D cells to 2D in order to use them in a 2D file. They should already work as you describe, by default.

Regards,
Ron
