These Open Applications within bentley are great news, but Open applications are specific add on (bentley pplications) to Microstaion, these are great, so every discipline has its own special application to solve their own special needs. But if you are in a big project and need to compile different Open information's with vanilla microstation. We who need the special discipline information and even need to combine Acad, Tekla, revit etc. information to one presentation (dgn) need to have the opportunity to combine information from parts of Open series and Acad series. We don´t need to change anything only read and get 1:1 information, as ALG.XML would be great to import and get with settings the same result as in Open/civil information. there is a lot of things we Vanilla microstation users need and want to read (not change) so I hope this is an start to implement these options to vanilla microstation.

Hi Tom,
This is already how it works. All data from OpenRoads, OpenRail, OpenBridge can be accessed read only in Microstation. Naturally importing Civil geometry would be limited to the civil applications, but those imported entities would be visible to Microstation users.

Does this also include any attribute data? Can MicroStation be used to create reports, applying display styles etc using Item Types?

Hi Krister,
Thats right - Item Type data from each of the applications is visible in the other applications. There is recent functionality "Last Known Valid Value" where it will "freeze" Item Type values that may not be able to be calculated in the other applications, ie. Civil data or Excel lookups that may not be available in other apps.
As Tom said this was an issue in the past, but is much better now.
