Hello,
I am trying to open a 3d scan and layer in a Plant3d model, but I am not sure which Bentley program will allow that. I am trying to use Bentley Pointools, but I am stuck on the conversion of the Plant3d model.
I understand the format for the scan needs to be e57 or POD or whatever the case may be, but which program am I to use that will allow me to open a 3d model within a 3d scan?
Furthermore, for the 3d model that is being generated in plant 3d, which program will allow for me to open it? otherwise, if I have to change the format, which Bentley program, will allow me to open that and the 3d scan to view them within each other, and which format should i convert it to?

If you have a .pod file already then yes, however I seem to recall that a pod file can be automatically created from other file types when its loaded.
Thomas, you can also convert point cloud from e57 to pod inside MicroStation. To do that use the tool Convert:
This should help:
Using Point Clouds (bentley.com)

If the 3d model file I am referencing in from an outside contractor was zipped in order to send electronically, can I reference in a compressed / zipped file? It says it is not in a recognizable format, but it is a dwg.
No, you need to unzip the DWG from the ZIP file and then reference the DWG file.
