Embedded an excel file into a sheet. The excel table displays correctly at a few random zoom levels otherwise it is displayed as a black box. The drawing will print showing the excel table. Is there any setting to allow the excel table to display correctly?

Are you using the new "Place Table" tool to embed an Excel worksheet as below shown? If not, please try this new approach.
No I am not just using the paste as embedded. Tried the place table tool found it a bit cumbersome compared to embedding an excel table. I would rather deal with the black box.
what happens if you paste special embed it in model space then ref attach the model to sheet space? or create saved view from model space and ref attach the saved view to sheet space?

The Place Table Tool can be very cumbersome, as you have stated. I have worked with the tool for some time and found the best method for constructing tables with Excel files is to create an empty table in Microstation. Then format the columns/cells as required and manually fill in any column headers.
Once that is done you can select all cells in Excel that represent the body of the table and copy that to the clipboard. Now you can go into Microstation select all the cells of your table and paste the information. You will not have a link back to the original Excel data but you can always jus delete the table text and recopy the data.

I just deleted the table and inserted it again on a different layer. Seems to be behaving correctly.
