Copy and Paste from AutoCAD version 13 into the DGN MicroStation V8i.

When trying to Copy and Paste an AutoCAD Block version 13 (cell) from a DWG file using the commands CTRL+C and CTRL+V or Edit > Copy and Edit > Paste,

the Block will not paste into the DGN MicroStation V8i. With two sessions open;

In the DWG, the Block is selected, then copied (Edit > Copy)
Moving the mouse into the DGN file, select Edit > Paste
The Block can be seen on the end of the mouse cursor
When clicking to accept the Paste command, the Block disappears and does not paste into the DGN

  • None of these msgcenter commands work I receive the message unknown key-in or command

  • What msgcenter commands? Then ones from the Help topic?  was simply linking to the Help so that you could understand what the Message Center is.

    They have nothing to do with what you are trying to do.

  • For my tuppenceworth.....

    Copy and pasting between drawings is such an AutoCAD workflow. yes it should work in MS too, but was always discouraged, certainly back in V8/V8i anyway. It is only n connect that the Copy/Paste tools have become part of the interface.

    normal MicroStation workflow is to attach the other file as a reference and copy the geometry through. If you must Copy/paste, then look for the Paste Special command rather than just Ctrl+V. This is the recommended command for pasting geometry in V8.

    i wold urge you to attach reference and copy though. dwg files will generally have a different resolution to dgn files. It may be that when you paste, it is showing you the geometry at cursor and real units, but when you click and paste it may be resizing based on resolution, another reason to ref and copy....

  • For what it is worth:I am working with a lot of dwgs and found that the copy-and-paste of blocks is not working well in microStation.  "simple" blocks (pure graphics) seem to work OK.

    Yet blocks with properties(labels) like titleblocks, are impossible to copy in mS. In AC you simply select the block, go Crtl-C, go into the second file(e.g. layout) and paste with the labels intact. In microstation you just loose it all.

    In AC this is just working fine. So while I am (still) using microStation most of the time (because I am used to it) I am lucky to have AC for this kind of operation.

    I guess there are quite a number of functionalities that would need to be overhauled.
