use Connect, keep v8i

MicroStation CONNECT Edition - Version 10.17.02.61, Using RealDWG 2023

I just needed to use v8i to print a sheet which would not respect transparency for a referenced raster reference. This was an old bug, had filed a ST, have not had this problem for a long time. Today I made a sheet with 2 references (same base, different scale) and the 2nd reference would not respect the transparency as assigned in the Level Manager.

Watched 'Tomorrow Never Dies' (James Bond) the other day. The bad guy, a media mogul, had a great line in there- Mr. Jones, are we ready to release our new software? response- Yes, sir. As requested, it's full of bugs, which means people will be forced to upgrade for years. Seems the Bentley brothers took it to heart........

  • I hear you, also using 17.02 but keeping SS10 around (probably for a long time) to handle things that Connect can't.

Most recent involved 3D file with parametric 3D objects. Something must be corrupted in the file because when trying to print to PDF using our old standard plot file Microstation just doesn't crash, the program just disappears from the screen, no spash screen saying you have a problem, nothing, just gone. Get into the same file in SS10 and try to print and it generates the PDF just fine. Connect doesn't have the verifydgn mdl app so I can't try to fix the problem on my own.

  • Have you tried to copy the content to a new (clean) dgn? Is it only when you use the "our old standard plot file" does it work with other plot files? Maybe something there triggers this. Does it show in the event log (Windows)?

As far as I know you should send in those problem files to Bentley via Service Ticket.

  • Yes, I have copied it into a new clean file and the result is the same. When I change the reference display to wireframe it plots fine. It must be some kind of currupt element within the file or a setting in our "hidden line-show hidden" display style that it doesn't like. I even dropped the parametric objects to smart solids, but same result.
