[CE 10.17.02.61] Copy files while retaining call-out references

Say I have the following situation:
I have a 3D file from which a lot of section call-outs are generated that are referenced in multiple 2D files in Project A. Now when I start working on Project B there is a lot of overlap between the work done on Project A so I want to create a copy of the 3D file and its call-outs in the 2D files from Project A to Project B.
If I were to straight up make copies of the files in ProjectWise the references would still be pointing to the original file, requiring me to go through every 2D file and update the references to the call-outs manually.

Is there a way to either automatically update all of the references, or even make a copy of the files in such a way that the references are also automatically updated to the new copy?

Remy

  • In general if you 'Save As' the Project A dgn to Project B it will update the primary references to reflect the new name. It will not pick up any of the secondary (or other) references. May or may not be what you need.

  • Hi Bob,

    Thank you for your reply.
As you mentioned I tried saving Project A as Project B. When I do this and look at the saved views I see the reference to the old Project A file, I thought maybe I can then update the "File Name" of the Saved views from the section call-outs to point to my new Project B file. However after editing this and looking at the 2D file containing the call-out the reference still seems to point to the old Project A file.

Am I misunderstanding what editing the reference link does?

In my newly "Saved as" ProjB3D file I can see the old saved views which refer to the older ProjA3D file.

From this menu I can select the reference link, which right now point to the old 2D file (Proj2A2DA.dgn) containing the section, and update it to the copy of the file (Proj2B2DA.dgn)

Which seems to correctly update the link name and full path

and apply changes to the saved view.

I was expecting that, if I now open the file of which I have updated the reference link that instead of the reference pointing to the old "ProjA3D.dgn" it would now point to the new "ProjB3D.dgn" file, however this does not seem to be the case.

So I wonder, what does updating the filename of the "Reference link" actually do then, if not repointing the source of the saved view?
