Microstation Place text with "predefined" text

Here is an old AskInga link to a utility for placing repetative text. This works with CONNECT. If you know how to edit the code you can add your own predefined text.

I added the predefined text in the bottom half of my utility.

How have I never seen this before?

I see - but couldn't the same be said by other functions in the products ?

They meant for it to be used as a "standard" supplied to the users.

It can be a common file for all to use and access if you put it in an area on your network where everyone has read/write access and then add that file to your DGNLIBLIST variable. Not sure how well that would work, but it could be done.

I've done that. The issue is that the list cannot be edited. I was able to have everyone view and use the list, which is good, but trying to add new items, the list did not update for the users.

I just tried it and it seems to work for me.

Created a testfile.dgnlib, opened it, added a text favorite. Configured the DGNLIBLIST variable to include this file. Restarted MS and opened a DGN file. The text favorite showed. 

I went back into the DGNLIB file and added another text favorite, saved the change, then opened a DGN file and the added text favorite appeared in the list.

am I missing a step possibly ?

Actually, I am thinking of the wrong item here. I was thinking about Special Characters, not Text Favorites.

One of the great features is that you can have a predefined line of text, like Legal Right of Way. When you select that string its added to the text editor. At that point you can add more text on the fly (ex Legal Right of Way for Limited Access) so you don't need to have every possible text string defined.

Yep. our DOT just provided their ORD standards at the end of last year, so everything up to this point (and even a few of the new projects) are all Power Geopak or Power InRoads. We're going to have to train everyone before making the switch because we've added staff, and I'm pretty sure we've all forgotten most of anything they learned of the modeling process from several years ago. At that point we can do new projects in ORD, but we will still have that backlog of older projects. It's not worth trying to convert anything that far along in the design process.
