Auto Back Up

Hi everyone. We have been having saving issues of late with some of our files. Either not saving correctly or file ends up corrupt. I want to set up a auto back up. I read about the MS_Backup but the problem here is it always just overwrites the last file, and you have to manually do it. I just would like for the program to back up a file and keep say the last 30 days or even all of them and just delete the old stuff manually. I have found when you right click the program file you get a "Restore Previous Version" and a colleague sometimes gets a "Version History" for some of his files (he has no idea why). The version history seems pretty accurate but the restore previous version is hit and miss with some files having nothing on here. So is there another option other than doing a "save as" once a day? We use both Connect and V8i. Thanks.

  • Hi Mike,

Are the files sitting in onedrive folders? I've heard stories about difficulties using dgn files with Onedrive.

If not, have you got autosave design turned on in your preferences? The autosave feature can also be set at configuration level as well if you need to roll that out. Snapshot is from OpenBuildings but it should be the same for Microstation.

As for the "restore previous version" feature, it's the Windows's "shadow copy" feature which needs to be set up outside of microstation.

    Best regards,

  • No OneDrive files. I figured that "restore previous versions" seemed odd because the Microstation  file wasn't even opened. It does work good but very inconsistent. I will look into this deeper in the next few days.  I do have Auto-Save turned on. I am looking more for a backup option that saves an individual copy say the last 14 days. I should also mention I am not very experienced with Microstation, or any CAD program really.
