Hatching Issue

Question

Hello, 
 As seen in the image above, I am trying to hatch this shape. Yet, anytime I try to click on it or hatch it in any way it says, "Element is not closed, can't be used." I am not sure why this may be, or what I can do in order to fix this hatching issue.

Across the top of the Tool Settings are different ways to define the area you wish to hatch. You have selected the first one, which is By Element. This will only work on closed element - a single element that is closed, such as a Shape or Complex Shape. 
 The option next to it is Flood, which can fill any area within a boundary. I believe that is what you want to use.
