For now DGN audit is non-public preview but for now it is also useless just Fixrange and Level audit mashed together. Nothing extra. Seems further development abandoned in 2021 by main developer. Google "DGN Audit Tool".

What I mean if it managed to fix then it I would also be able to fix it. But I was able to fix files which even Filefixer couldn't fix that is why I call it useless. We tried to become Axiom resellers but all we got in return is weekly calls and asking to by the tools ourselves

It was 2010-2015 when I had axiom tools with file fixer, it did scan and report on files before they became corrupt, and a few times we had corrupt files that mstn v8i could not open or xref anymore.. File fixer managed for me to get them open and repair most of the problems, so it was worth it back then.. Not so sure today in connect ed. but Bentley have been talking about an Edg replacement for years I hope we see it in our lifetime Otto, but will they charge extra for it?

FileFixer is mostly useless. I had much more luck with using generic structured storage tools(7-zip, SSview, Offvis) and fixing DGN files with these which was not possible using FileFixer or even contacting Bentley support. I still send the corrupted files just for fun to receive the standard reply to use backups(no such option to create them automatically).
So if you have a corrupt file just drop me a message and I could often recover most of it. Also Bentley is working on replacement for Edg so soon could have a tool to audit DGN files.

DGN corruption stil happens but mostly it is lost model headers(bad error handling?) which is easy fix but somehow Microstation treats it as critical issue and doesn't even try to rebuild model index(key-in:model reindex) and Bentley support is no help either. Other issues are when part of DGN is overwritten with non-DGN contents. Not sure how it happens but seems a bad local network infrastructure. Mostly such issues are gone after upgrading local network to gigabit ethernet.

Back in the 1990's this tool saved a lot of files. Even with knowledge in the EDG editor this tool saved countless hours.

With the move from V7 to V8 20 years ago file corruption became far less common. It is very rare to encounter a corrupted file now. You have to weigh the expense of the application vs how often you will have a corrupted file. In my view File Fixer is not worth the cost any more.

That being said, if you have their toolbox that includes Office Importer, Title Block Manager, etc. that you use a lot it's worth keeping.

Axiom's global File changer and Office Importer save us 100s of hours a year. I highly recommend these two tools. Haven't had as much luck with th e file fixer app, perhaps our files were too far gone to be saved. idk.

FileFixer was worthless in my opinion. I never had one file that I was able to repair with the software. Also, their sales staff is relentless. I used to get weekly calls for years after we dropped the software. We had other utilities from them as well, which we dropped because they did not save any time.

there is nothing else that does this function, after we lost v7 Edg.

It is more a case of how expensive is your data to repair or replace it.. when I worked at our international airport our data was backed up all the time but some data was 20 years of accumulated changes to the layout of the floor plans of the entire terminal and shared ref all the time so if a corruption or loss of data it could take weeks to rebuild from contractor updates of individual site plans .. so to keep the health of the main important files we used axiom to scan them often as many users making changes daily and several sources and data types, often it is this external data copied from or imported from autocad etc that can lead to corruption, also they had some weird cache server system that if msnt crashed you loose the entire session of changes not just the last thing so for the few times a year we needed axiom it was worth the money.. also axiom offers subscribers assistance with difficult files that wont repair properly

Hey nobody likes paying for insurance but its still cheaper than paying to replace your house after it burned down, right? so its just insurance but I recommend running the file scan tool often to make sure you prevent corruption getting to the point of failure and this will at least show results ie reports and justify the renewal cost. In order to keep the cost down just get one license for a nominated user like the cad manager or you most senior experienced microstation user, but it depends on how many people work in your company but be careful not to be penny wise and pound foolish .. if your company makes a few million a year income then a few hundred if not thousand a year is insignificant to prevent file or data corruption going unchecked. In my work if a stop sign would be lost and undetected could potentially lead to loss of life .. and legal liability nightmare.
