[V8i SS10] Attaching WMS?

I've begun delving into WMS imagery as a source for our projects. I prefer it to any static imagery for many many reasons.

As far as I know, you find the link to the WMS server (something like https://tnmap.tn.gov/arcgis/services/BASEMAPS/IMAGERY_WEB_MERCATOR/MapServer/WMSServer), type it into the dialog for WMS attachment, and the connection is made, and you have an image.

But it doesn't always work. Quite often I will come up with a server error: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send.

I have no idea what that means or how to troubleshoot it. I have no idea if there is a workaround, a setting or other option I should be using.
I know the WMS server is valid because I can see it in other programs.

  • It seems like you may have discussed a similar issue around a year ago with a suggestion that it may be related to a TLS Protocol issue using the older MicroStation V8i version. Have you also tested this using MicroStation CE or 2023?

  • It's definitely something V8i related. I can connect to the site with ORD fine, but when I reopen the file in V8i the image doesn't appear and doesn't show in the Raster Manager. So it looks like I'm out of luck at this point.

I also have SID files for the location, but apparently, those are too advanced a version as well. I was unaware that images have versions, but there are many, many things I don't know.

The Bing maps work for printing, but they have a nasty tendency to not show past a certain zoomed-in level. We can only go "so close" before we lose the image, and that level is too far out for what we need to draw.
