Is it possible to group levels in Bentley Connect?
It would be helpfull to quickly manage styles for large groups of levels. Also, when using FME, every level requires an individual reader, which can be very time-consuming.

Thank in advance

RE: Bentley Connect - Grouping levels?

Hello f.mandoki,

You could create the .dgnlib file from scratch and then import the levels from the Level Manager.

To answer your question - yes.

But of no use if you don't create the files yourself from scratch.

Did you ever do real work in Microstation outside of the Bentley office? (not meant in an offensive way, just out of curiosity)

RE: Bentley Connect - Grouping levels?

Hi Tim,

Thanks for posting in our MicroStation Communities Forum.
As Jon suggested, the Level Filter tools would be worth looking into.

You might also consider storing your levels in .dgnlib files and and then adding them to your configuration via the MS_DGNLIBLIST configuration variable.
Storing levels in a DGNLIB file is an easier way to manage many levels at once. You could theoretically create multiple .dgnlib files that contain different "groups" of levels and then edit/manage the levels as necessary from the admin perspective.

Here are some resources on Levels and their functionality as it relates to DGNLIB files:
Creating Levels using Seed File or DGNLIB file:

Levels And Level Libraries

Another feature to look into would be Named Groups.
MicroStation - Grouping Part 3 - Named Groups

I hope this helps!

Many years ago, at the inception of MicroStation V8, Bentley Systems I believe considered the implementation of a hierarchical level system. However, that idea never arrived in the retail software. If it had been implemented, then you would have an instant solution to your question.

MicroStation offers Level Filter technology, which is a way to handle a group of levels.
when using FME
You might prefer to pose that question in the OpenCities Forum, where you will find more users familiar with FME.
