Wanted feature: Loft Along

Hi

The current parametric Loft function only lofts the shortest distance between two profiles, but it would be very desirable if it would be possible to loft a solid from two different parametric profiles along an alignment, similar to how the Swept surface along curves works (although it is not parametric at the moment).

Does anyone know if Bentley are developing this feature for an upcoming update?

  • This function is similar but it does not achieve the same result as the "Swept surface along curves" functions.

Loft solid by sections with guide wires could create an initial result to be similar, but as soon as you change your constrained section, the guide wires will not follow and the loft will change shape.

Ideally the new function would be something like "Swept solid along curves", allowing multiple parametric constrained profiles to be swept along a curve.

See the suggestion in the ideas portal for reference:

Sounds like what you are after is very similar to Prostructures old Template Driven Solids.

I think that the problem is constraining the guide wires to the constrained section will need the vertices to be extracted and indexed or named to allow the guide wires something 'meaningful' to (re)connect to.

For example, how will the tool know how to re-connect the guide wires if the profile loses or gains vertices?

Unfortunately, TDS was put on hold in 2018... with no replacement in sight. Probably ran into problems getting the rebar to work with the resultant solids.

So, it would be good to push for a come back at platform level?
