KEYIN for selecting all smartsolids/parametric cell inside the active model

Hi Everyone,

Is it possible to select all the smartsolids/parametric cell inside the active model? if so what is the keyin?

In the Element Selection we can go to Element Type and select the Smart Solid/Surface and Parametric Solid which does what i want, i just don't know how to do it by KEYIN, tried recording but only recorded the data points.

I'm using Microstation Connect Edition U16

  • Hi Crisanto,

Thanks for posting in our MicroStation Communities Forum.
I don't think there is a direct key-in for this workflow, but you could try adding your elements to a Named Group and then use the Named Group - Element Selection Key-In:

    1. Navigate to Named Groups dialog (Home Tab > Groups)
    2. Create new Named Group - name it something like SmartSolids
    3. Use Element Selection tool manually to select all Smart Solid/Surface and any other elements you want to add
    4. With these elements selected, select Add Elements and then accept. (Probably best to use Passive method for this scenario)

    5. Now use the key-in select bynamedgroup <Named Group Name> to select the elements
So in this case, it would be:
    select bynamedgroup SmartSolids

    I hope this helps!

  • Mstn continues to struggle with dealing with nested elements. Must be a deep seated flaw in the API.

It would be great to be able to convert to iTwins and use ECSQL queries there. Of course, I dont think parametric solids are covered in the BIS schema ... yet? There has been some talk about Mstn 2023 being able to save directly to local itwins in future. I was thinking that this would be a big benefit for Mstn users if itwins functionality could be leveraged to boost productivity in Mstn.

OTOH, it may be possible using the Search tool in Project Explorer?

This mesh element is nested in a Cell and selectable in PE. But the Search tool can't drill down into the Cells to find it.

    C'mon, Bentley devs?
