Is there a Configuration Variable for Print Styles separate from MS_DGNLIBLIST?
I have created Print Styles in a DGNLIB for Version 08.11.05.17. Our client has provided us with a workspace, and we like to keep the files that we create to work on the client's project's separate from their provided workspace. If they provided an update, then we don't have to worry about deleting items we created to help us work with their workspace. The problem is the client's configuration locks the MS_DGNLIBLIST. I completely agree with the client. This way we keep with the client's standards.
Printing, however, can vary depending if we are showing existing, proposed and future items in the plot. A separate configuratin variable for the Print Styles would help. Is there a configuration variable that tells Microstation where to find the Print Styles? An "MS_PLTDGNLIB" variable would be very helpful for Print Styles.
Unfortunately, I don't believe what you're requesting is feasible. Print Organizer and the Print dialog have no input on which DGN libraries are loaded when MicroStation starts up. That's strictly a function of MS_DGNLIBLIST. A printing-specific configuration variable wouldn't make any sense in core subsystem responsible for locating DGN libraries. I understand your situation, but your suggested "MS_PLTDGNLIB" would have to be in reality something like "MS_ADDITIONAL_DGNLIBLIST". This wouldn't be my call, but I'd have a hard time justifying creation of a parallel configuration variable just to avoid having to unlock the primary variable.
Perhaps you can add a new configuration file to the workspace -- without modifying any of your client's .cfg files -- that simply appends or prepends your print style DGN library to MS_DGNLIBLIST before the variable is locked.
.
I find it interesting that they were able to add a configuration for MS_GUIDGNLIBLIST. Why not just leave it under MS_DGNLIBLIST? My questions deals with placing all the DGNLIBS under one variable when they control different functions. Someone was using forward thinking when they added MS_GUIDGNLIBLIST as a variable.
I'm suggesting the same forward thinking for printing styles. Printing styles are not directly involved in creating the drawing like linestyles and cells and fonts. Printing styles involves how the drawings are presented and can vary with the type of drawing, the audience for the drawing and the final use of the drawing. Keeping the printing styles separate from the workspace gives the users more options with the drawing's final output product, but it helps keep the outputs uniform between users by having a print styles dgnlib. I'm able to add a configuration to printstyle.dgnlib we created without changing the client's workspace configurations; however, I think it would benefit standardizing the work place if a specific variable pointed to the print styles similar to how the interfaces are set up: with their own variable.
@jason dobe i have created dgnib but how to make it dgnlib for print style can you help?
