Why do cells rotate when referenced?

When I reference a file that uses particular cells, the cells come in rotated relative to the rest of the reference.  Does anybody know why?

Thanks,
Matt

  • What it appears you are describing sounds related to view dependence. By default, a graphic (or normal) cell is created as view dependent, while point cells are created as view independent (IOW, a graphic cell rotates when a view is rotated, while a point cell is view-independent.) There is more information regarding this under the "Cell type" section of Contents > Help > Getting Started > Cells > Creating and Editing Cells. If that is not the case in your situation, though, could you provide some more details and possibly a small, simple example data set that we could take a look at? TIA

  • Speaking of View Independence, I had thought that with V8 and later versions, the problem with View Independent text not rotating around it's origin was going away (within MicroStation, though it usually plots correctly in IPlot).  I recently found this not to be the case.  Can't this be fixed?  I noticed that the text had a significant horizontal shift recently when I mirrored an InRoads cross section (on the vertical axis) after first making all text view independent via a selection set and the Element Info utility.  Text with a horizontal center justification shifted to the right.  I can't remember if left or right justified text was also shifted.

Or did I rotate the view 180 on the vertical axis, create a saved view, and then reference the sections using the saved view?  It has been a while and I think I tried it both ways with similar results.
