Shifting text in a cell

I have some client cells that containg some text. For some reason, a piece of text will shift to the right or left and end up overlapping nearby line/shape elements. Not all text does this and not all cells. In V8 everything is fine. The text is created from the clients font, not a Truetype font.
In the attached cell library you can see cells M34 & M41 have shifted text but M41A does not. Any ideas or fix?

  • It appears that the cells you have shifted text in have 2 seperate text elements in them. ie North has an N and the ORTH is a sperate piece of text. The cells you mention that do not have shifted text only have one text element. I don't know why the North, South, East and West cells are made that way but that seems to be the issue.

  • Tom,

I'm very familiar with that cell lib. I checked in my copy and those cells have the same text shift. I don't know what happened to those cells to cause the shift, but if you edit the cells and move the text into the proper position it works correctly. You can use the Replace Cells tool in any dgn files to update and of the cells previously placed with the shifted text.

I'll see what I can do to get the master copy updated and have the client post the updates on their ftp site.

  • There are cells with 1 text element that are shifting also. Cells M41, M42, M43. All cells/text are fine in XM.

  • I see what you mean now.

The cells display correctly in V8 2004 edition as well, but in V8i SS1 and SS2 the text is shifted. When I bring up the cells that I "corrected" in V8i SS2 in v8 2004 edition they are incorrectly shifted in the opposite direction.

  • Hello Tom,

The 'shifting' of the texts may have to do with the way the missing font nr# 5, 10 and 35 have been defined.

I would first ask your client to provide the resource file that contain these fonts.

Install that .rsc on your workstation before you start editng the texts/cells (variable MS_SYMBRSRC to point to the .rsc location).

    Hope this is of help.

    Best regards,

    Henk
