I have a very cluttered drawing with lots of lines and lots of dimensions. But it's difficult reading the text dimensions, because there are many lines overlapping underneath. So I spend a lot of time trimming all the lines that the dimension text is overlapping. Is there any function that does this for you? It does not actually have to trim the lines, but just create a clear background, behind the text. any ideas? thanks.
As far as I know in Dimension Styles, the Dimension Text does not support Text Backgrounds YET!
Only thing you can do currently is to place shapes that are the background color behind the dimension.or if referenced you can Clip Mask the reference. Both are time consuming! Move the text so it isn't so bad.
Just trying to help! If someone knows a better way chime in!
I Hope this Helps!
One way I use:
Create a copy of the text style you are using in your dimension style.
Click on the background tab & check the Background box.
Change the fill color to Background.
Change the Background border color to Background.
Adjust the Offset settings to suit the coverage you desire.
Create a copy of the Dimension style you want to use.
Click on the text tab & set the text style to your blockout text .
Save it in your dgnlib so its available in any & all dgns....

Microstation SS3 08.11.09.714
ProStructures V8i SS8 v8.11.14.238
I second what Steve said, thats what we do too.
We also created a hierarchy for notes, dimensions, text and other elements, made templates with a specific priority so that the text will always have a higher priority than other elements.
I have successfully used in dimensions, text styles that have a background since the first V8i. I think it works in XM as well.
*While the background seems to work in the design file, there is however, a plotting issue with backgrounds that is specific to SS2. It affects all text place with a background and this issue involves both MicroStation Print and Interplot. The background absolutely will not mask other text of any kind - from text in reference attachments (like topo) to the text components in custom linestyles. With Interplot, changing the IPlot engine to another MicroStation version (if you have multiple versions installed) can address that problem though it could cause older plotting problems to resurface. Another work around is to install Redline SS1 or Bentley View SS1 and plot with them rather than having multiple MicroStation versions. With Interplot you can just specify View or Redline as the Iplot engine. There is a TR on this but the actual fix is probably in SS3. I'd sure be nice if there were patches for these sorts of things instead of having to wait for the next version.
great, I got it working. tx
