Hello all,
I am in the process of dimensioning hundreds of points generated from point cloud data for elevations of beam seats on a overpass. Is there any formula for placing a note (need the leader) that will bring up the value of the z coordinate only. similar to the attached picture. right now I have to Place note and copy/paste the z value from the information dialog. Sucks. New to microstation, more familiar with autodesk products. Thanks in advance
Takes a bit of setup but once you do it you can copy it to any location and it will dynamically update.
1) Turn on association for the place note command. Also turn association on in your locks.
2) I the text editor ad a field "f(x)" button
field type - element prop
click on your element with the Z. i.e. your red dot.
go to geometry and pick the z value
set the format as you desire.
click OK.
3) Now place your leader and text. Make sure you snap to the red dot when you place your leader.
This should now be dynamic. If you move the dot the leader will follow and the z change.
4) Create a cell out if it. With the select tool select the leader text and red dot. Then do a CTRL+G
5) You can now copy this. The z should update on each new location.
If you need to mov the text/elev you can drop the cell with drop element and move the text as desired.
You could also make one cell that includes top and bottom elev w/ leaders if you like.
David could we see a video of this on screen cast with jing or similar

File was only about 5MB. AVI was massive. Will try Vimeo and post a link.
OK, here it is. Best in HD. Enjoy.
Very nice example- Contributors like yourself make this place great!
Thanks, Spent way more time trying to upload it than make it. Learned a lot of cool stuff in the process though.
Created an open MicroStation Tutorials group on Vimeo so others are free to post videos as well. Membership is free.
