Hi All,
Is there a way to mask/wipeout objects, using say a shape with a certin fill color (or any other method)? I know with text, you can set it to have a background color of "BG" but I cannot find this color when selecting the fill color of a shape. If I click on the same location that was called "BG" when I was selecting the text style background color, it no longer says for the shape "BG", but "255" instead. If I use this color, it appears to work on screen (i.e. the fill of the shape does indeed match the background color), however, when I go to print, the shape prints as a solid black box.
Note that I am not concerned with masking a reference. I know how to do this using the clip reference method. I am after masking linework/objects that are in the same drawing as the object that I will be masking them.

That's strange, I'm using V8i SS2 and I can select a shape, set it to solid, opaque, and chose the lower right color from the color selector which is labeled "B" and it masks the object behind it correctly on screen and plot.
Are you using a custom color table? (I'm using the standard color.tbl file)
With the color table that's delivered with microstation it's number 25... or as mwrbentley said, the color in the lowest right hand corner labeled with a B.

I believe I'm using the most current version of Microstation (MS SS2 08.11.07.443). My bacground color in my design model is RGB 0,0,0 and in my sheet model is RGB 43,43,43 (i do this to help me visually know what space I'm in).
mwrbentley, following your example, I too can see the "B" option in the lower right hand corner. Where the "B" doesn't show up is in the color menu drop down in the element info box dialog. However, even when setting a shape's color in the "Place Block/Circle" Dialog to "B", it still plots black. As mwrbentley mentioned, it is probably something to do with the color table, which I do not have any experience with. Our standards come from our DOT so I have never messed with a color table. Any ideas on how I could reslove this?
Are you printing from your sheet model? What is the RGB value of the color 255 in your color table? You could set you mask color fill to an RGB value of 254,254,254. Which is close to white. When you use 0,0,0 or 255,255,255 some times the colors invert depend on things like color tables and user prefs Background Black -> White. Are model backgrounds checked or unchecked in user prefs? It could also have to do with how plotting is configured.
can you create video of what your doing when you try to do this.. download and install Jing from tech smith.. will let you screen capt with sound and publish to their screen cast web site then we can see what you see and figure out the problems.. otherwise you have to male pictures and post copy of your cad files for us to play with
screen cast is better plus latter you can use screen cast to make tutorials for your fellow users....

I have come up with a workaround. It involves using the True Colors instead of the normal colors. I am swamped at work currently, but when I get some time, I will explain the details of workaround and the other things I discovered and will also try and post the screencast.
