Bentley Map can import .shp files. You need to be aware of the data projection and make sure you get "apples-to-apples". It's also possible (I think) to export from ArcGis into a .dgn file, so your data source may be able to give you a .dgn file (you must ensure the .dgn seed file used is correct).
Hi,
for MicroStation V8 2004 and Geographics, see the following links:
Import ESRI Shape files: http://selectservices.bentley.com/en-US/Support/Documentation/Client+Server/2004/12+April+2004.htm?currentYear=2004
Export ESRI Shape Files: http://selectservices.bentley.com/en-US/Support/Documentation/Client+Server/2006/Exporting+DGN+data+to+ESRI+shapefile+format+with+MicroStation+GeoGraphics.htm?currentYear=2006
Hope this is of help.
Henk
Thanks!
After a little research based on your recommendations, adding Geographics is definitely what we need.
@Henk
thank you very much for that compilation!
i have recently taken a new job where MicroStation (V8 2004 edition) + GeoGraphics are used in the GIS...with a heavy ESRI background - i'm filling in the parallels between the two software packages and looking for all possible aids, this was great!
with this being said - i'd like to make a plea for any guidance, tips or tricks which anyone can share that would be useful for someone moving from ESRI to MircroStation working in GIS.
*thanks - Joe
I would add that significant "Interoperability" capabilities are available in Bentley Map XM Edition, including the ability to directly "Reference Attach" popular GIS file formats such as ESRI SHP and MapInfo MIF/MID and TAB.
