  • Were the missing fonts also available in Microsoft Office?

If yes, then the fonts are installed via windows font installer.

Did you recently get a new computer?

If yes, then my guess the fonts were installed via windows and went away with your old computer.

  • A font with a number less than 255 is a MicroStation RSC font. Helvetica_Medium is not a delivered font. Resource fonts are defined in MicroStation resource files (.RSC). You will need to get the appropriate resource file from the person who created the DGN you are trying to view, and place it in a location found by MS_SYMBRSRC or MS_FONTPATH (assuming V8i).

  • I am missing several of my TTF from the font pulldown in any of the text dialogs. These fonts ARE used (correctly) in my pre-defined text styles, and they seem to work fine. These TTF ARE on my computer, in the same...\Windows\Fonts\ directory as all my other TTF. They are available and functioning in all my other Windows/Office programs. Why can I not get to them from the text dialogs?

  • I've seen this problem with legacy font .rsc files that were used in MicroStation J and brought forward to MicroStation V8.xx. In MicroStation J the only way to get access to TrueType and PostScript fonts in MicroStation was to import them into your font .rsc file. As a result, many users imported these fonts into their font .rsc files.

When using .rsc files in any of the MicroStation V8.xx releases that contain imported true type fonts, the true type font definitions in the .rsc file override the matching windows true type font installation. I have found that this conflict can make either version of the font unavailable in MicroStation, or that the font is displayed out of order at the end of font  selection drop-down lists.

The fix for this is to remove the True Type font definitions from all of your MicroStation font .rsc files. I seem to remember a post about a .rsc font editor being available for MicroStation V8i SS3 but cannot find it. Otherwise you can install a copy of MicroStation J and use the Utilities > Install Fonts tool to edit the font .rsc file.
