I can place a background on a single line of text. If I put additional lines of text it puts a rectangle around each line of text. I just want one rectangle to encompass the entire text whether its one line of text or multiple lines of text. Can this be done? Thanks, Eric, ver. 8.11.9.292
What color are you using for the background? Depending on what you're trying to achieve, try changing the Background Border: to B (background)
I'm using BG as the background and Red as the background border. If I change the background border to BG it is no longer visible. I guess I can still draw a rectangle around the text afterwards. Thanks for your input.
ok your trying to do 2 things
1 you want a box or rectangle around your text
2 you want a bg mask be hind your text
This unforutnately results in a jaggerd outline from the border because it is controlled by the line of text length of charectors and if they are not the same length in a multiline text and the spacing between lines also creates a problem..
I gave up trying to get this to work too...But it used to work in the old draft tools up to a point
My only work arounds are to use the place note option with the text and boxed also setting the dims and text styles I can make multiline text with a consistant box and bg fill behind the text...this is ver y clumsy but it works
but between the lines of text there is no bg fill...
So what I do is go back to old school and have a cell of a box with bg fill attribute and sample multiline text inside centred on the centroid of the box then you place your cell at will and edit the text at will this works for me as I have some stamps that vary the wording slightly this way its always available , scalable and sticks to my level names structure....
as you can see here if you use dims settings/ place note and text style settings you can get the box to self adjust size by the text. and use colours forth dim box
outline......but for my money its too much fiddling unless you have lots to do its not worth it ... the cell option is easier and faster...

Bump? This seems to me like it should be an easy fix. If you are able to enter multiple lines of text into the Editor, it makes no sense that multiple lines would produce multiple, overlapping boxes. I'm sure this isn't useful for anyone.
Check the Ideas section of this forum. I believe that someone has already suggested a fix for this, and the more votes it getes, the more l,ikely Bentley is to do something about it.
Otherwise, this is a Works As Designed. Poor design maybe, but that's' how it comes out of the box.I usually just have to place filled shapes behind my text and group the shape and the text. It's extra steps, and it's awkward, but it's better than the default behavior.
