[V8i] Tasks Tool Menu Not Showing Up

I'm new to this forum but seen my coworker's encountering these recent problems and I don't know what could be happening; I'm the most senior user so they are looking to me to resolve the issue.

They are opening up an existing dgn file, but their Tasks menu is not showing up.  We've tried going to "Tools" and selecting "Tasks" but nothing happens and when you go back in to select it again the menu shows "Tasks" as unchecked.  So it's not even opened and off the screen somewhere, it's just not displaying.

I've tried having the users who are encountering this problem replace their UPF files with mine because I am not having this same problem, but that didn't correct the issue.

Does anyone have any recommendations to try?  I tried to search the forums a bit and also have them replace their UCF, DOCKINGPREF, and DOCKINGPREFSEED files; but still nothing.

  • Hello Kevin,

What exact version (PowerDraft or MicroStation) you have?

In case it is one of the V8i (SELECTseries 3) releases, please read the what's new in this release. In this release were some changes, as menu library “Ustation.dgnlib” is divided into separate Libraries. A new GUI.dgnlib (- it contains the tasks, Main task, and context menus that are delivered with the product) was added. On other hand all should work same way. So question comes if you have custom Workspace or you just moved Workspace from V8i SS2 into SS3? Could you check if you have such GUI.dgnlib file in your MicroStation/PowerDraft V8i SS3 Workspace: “…\WorkSpace\System\GUI\” ?

If _USTN_SYSTEM_GUIDGNLIBLIST was changed in a custom configuration and does not load the DGNLIBs that are in "...\Workspace\System\GUI\", it will cause the delivered tools to be missing (not show) when MicroStation is started.

    To resolve:

    Modify configuration so that _USTN_SYSTEM_GUIDGNLIBLIST includes Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\Workspace\System\GUI\*.dgnlib

    or

Copy GUI.dgnlib to the location where _USTN_SYSTEM_GUIDGNLIBLIST is currently pointed.

    Regards,

    Darius

  • We are using MicroStation PowerDraft V8i (SELECTseries 2) Version 08.11.07.443 on Windows 7.  I have not encountered this problem on my computer, but three other people in my group are randomly encountering the problem.  Sometimes everything opens fine.

I do not think we have a custom Workspace set up.

I did not find the "GUI" directory in my workspace, is that specific to SS3?  Or is that found somewhere else in SS2?

    Kevin

  • Yes this GUI directory introduced in V8i SS3. So you should not have it on SS2 Workspace.

If you haven't yet, try to reset PowerDraft to default settings.

    Steps:

    1. Right click on your PowerDraft icon (if you have one on Desktop) -> Properties

    2. Shortcut tab -> under Target field place a space after the ...\draft.exe" and type -restoredefaults

It should look something like: "C:\Program Files\Bentley\PowerDraft\draft.exe" -restoredefaults

NOTE: the full path to draft.exe is in quotes. Place a space AFTER the quotes, then type -restoredefaults.

    3. Click the OK button.

    4. And run PowerDraft from it's icon.

    5. A command window will open displaying the details of the operation. Press any key to Exit.

    6. Remove the -restoredefaults from icon properties and check PowerDraft again.

  • In case you do see the task menu, but is minimized, try Preference->Task Navigation->Select Show Main Task Tools and Change Presentation to Dialog
