More use of Parallel Snap

We use MicroStation 8.11.09.357 on Operating System XP

We want to have a tool to make the use of MicroStation even more friendly.

Parallel Snap only works in combination with placed lines, we want to use it for more functions, like moving/copy ttext parallel on an existing element for example.

as example an existing placed block that I want to rotate parallel and snap on an existing element.

This would make the use of MicroStation even faster.

  • There is an old tool that someone created called Active Angle Assistant. There are a lot of functions contained in this tool and one one those functions allows you to rotate one element to the same rotation as another. I used to use this before I became comfortable using Accudraw.

My preferred way of placing text rotated to an element  is to use Accudraw.

    Have Accudraw open

Use the Place Text tool and enter the desired text

Make sure Accudraw has focus and type RE (as Ian suggested)

Pick the rotated element (the Accudraw compass & text will rotate to the element angle)

    Place text.

If you have existing text placed you can

Select the piece of text using the rotate by 3 pts (make sure Accudraw is open before)

Pick the first and second rotation pts

    Make sure Accudraw has focus

Type RE again (compass will rotate to element)

Pick the 3rd point (would be locked on an axis of compass aligned with rotated element)

Working with Accudraw takes some getting used to. The most important thing to watch for is to make sure Accudraw has focus when using the associated commands. If you want to see all available Accudraw shortcuts just type ? (question mark) while Accudraw has focus and you will see a complete list.
