Clip reference and saved view

Question

A user is asking this question: 
 
 In MicroStation I often use the Saved View to bring references to where I want them. 
 
 I noticed that that once I bring in the file using the saved view, it won&rsquo;t let me re-clip it. Is there some setting that I should be checking to allow me to do it? 
 
 It will still let me mask an area or delete a mask, but I don&rsquo;t have the &ldquo;boundary&rdquo; option available.

In MicroStation V8i SELECTseries 3, the Synchronize View option can be set to 'Presentation Only'. This option can be found in the Reference Presentation dialog, Select the reference and click on the Set Reference Presentation icon, or, go to menu Settings > Presentation in Reference dialog. Try cliping or modifying the boundary after this.

This has been asked many times in this forum. The answer has been to change the variable 
 MS_REF_DEFAULTSETTINGS > SYNCHWITHSAVEDVIEW=none 
 
 This is OK if you know how to do this. Another option is to allow the users to set the Saved Views options themselves; When you attach the reference file that has a Saved View you can change the Synchronized view options. By default it is set to Volume Only. This means the Saved View control the reference file attachment settings. 
 
 
 If you change this to 'Presentation only or None', the clip option will be activated. 
 
 
 A word of warning, these settings can will change the way the reference file updates will work.
