Levels levels levels

I have a converted dwg  to dgn file utilizing model and sheet. I can't believe the amount of locations that it's possible to change a reference level's display properties, not to mention the fact the process is multiplied by 2 for on/off state changes. I'm completely overwhelmed.

I realize the initial creator of the file is mostly to blame but could someone help me get a handle on this? I'd like to control all the levels in one location. Additionally, I can't seem to find a setting to hold the level settings so they all revert after open/close. (dwg visretain=1 already??)

Is your question related to the default Microstation Level display  mechanism or DWG related, only.

Are you familar with the " default Microstation Level display  mechanism"?

For DGN files your have three "Level display methods" (see the Level Display Tool)

    1. DISPLAY ON/OFF Level per View (not DWG compatiblel, but Microstation Default, for SAVE AS DWG see the DWG-Options)

    2. GLOBAL DISPLAY  ON/OFF Level (DWG compatible)

    3. GLOBAL FREEZE LEVEL ON/OFF (DWG compatible)

    and

    4. for Reference attachments there is a GLOBAL/ON OFF

Indeed a Reference Attachment may have a level assingment in an DGN-Model like in AutocAD (DWG)

You may not use "file/Save settings" to revert you level settings after reopening your dgn file. Better try to use
"SAVED VIEWS" for different Level settings and reusing them.
