  • very good.... but isnt most of this work done by engineers with pro-engineer, or catia or solid edge...

I havent had any work for mechanical since 2001 seems to all be done by above.. or even cool stuff like sketchup pro or machineshop...

  • Since 1997 I teach MicroStation for mechanical engineers. Many colleagues criticized me for not using SolidWorks. In fact, while always considering MicroStation a better geometric modeler, it lacked much for mechanics. Until it came to feature modeling. Then, in the connect version, 3D geometric constraints were implanted. For me it was enough for MicroStation to get better than Solidworks in mechanical modeling.

Now Bentley makes adjustments to stay "more aligned to the new parametric modeling system". However, in these adjustments they take away the small details that are important to mechanical engineers. For example, drill holes with thread symbol and drill angle.

Even seed files in millimeters do not follow the datasets anymore. MicroStation is becoming a software for civil engineering only.
