The first sessions of the MicroStation SIG were well received. The second subject is a dive down into AccuDraw. Registration is here:
http://learn.bentley.com/app/Public/GetLiveCourseOfferings?CourseId=107996&lpId=105422&FreeForAll=False When you register, you will receive the links to the videos to watch before the live session which will be October 29. The live webinar will be held 2 times: One at 8am Calif (11am to 12 pm EDT/UTC-4) and a repeat at 3pm Calif (6pm to 7pm EDT/UTC-4). As you watch the videos, pls pause them and work exercises. Then, post any questions in the MicroStation - Forum. You will increase your productivity in MicroStation, AECOsim, InRoads S
oh my. communication, communication. In my clarification above: "Q's should be posted on the forum", I should have said "Q's should be posted here" ie replies in the string to the original post of the event."
A thousand pardons. As I am sure you can see, I am new to posting on Be Communities, and having trouble with the lingo. But, I guess it makes sense that the questions should be replies to the event post. I hope this hasn't caused more confusion.
My mistake. "Then, post any questions in the MicroStation-Forum" should read: "Then, post any questions as a reply to the MicroStation SIG event post" Or, now, you can just post as a reply to this.
Attention to those who attended the MS SIG: Intro to MicroStation event! Here is a helpful message from Tom Lazear...
I did some research to help the registrants for the first SIG. Several questions about batch printing, connecting to databases, dgnlibs, models. There are some specific free videos that touch on those subjects taken from the Bentley LEARNing Conference:
To get to the free content, go to www.bentley.com and then hover over Training & Learning, then look to the bottom of the list and click Bentley Learning Conference. Click MicroStation Track Learning Path. Here are the recommended videos:
Productivity GEMS for Microstation Trainers…. 26 min
Efficiently Managing Project Information…. 17 min
Organizing Deliverables (Batch printing)… 31 min
Sheet and Drawing Models (4 parts)….. 50 min total
Interoperability Enhancements for Sharing Data ODBC …..32 min
Configuring DGNlibs…. 40 minutes
This apparent new deal is turning into a rich diet, after a beginner's year of drought and starvation!
Some suggestions for future sigs not necessarily the next one.. I already know how to do these but as a extended feature for other users to promote use of mstn at there work in particular Links and bentley view as a productivity and presentation tool across their corporate networks...for eg at my work place I developed a map of all geotechnical reports available through out Melbourne airport..these I linked by drawing shapes or extents covered by the reports to the actual reports giving a graphical representation (sort of fake GIS) of reports available and enabling quick retrieval of the relevant report...
This continues to save a lot of time and money and unnecessary duplication of geotech bore holes .. and is available to all the network users without the need for microstation just Bentley view and any office standard desktop or intranet capable device...
Future topics
Links... how to link microstation graphic elements to other file formats like pdf reports, photos, word , excel and other dgn files...
Annotation scale and how to use it properly.
Raster manipulation ie warping etc
The Macro recorder... and editing macros...
F key customisation.
Mouse key customisation eg how to run the plot function from a 5 button mouse
Pentables for productivity... ie text substitution, standardisation of output, customisation for specific task prints..
Printer.pltcfg customisation for specific jobs ie pdfs, 3dpdfs, layered pdfs, lowres pdfs, highres pdfs, rasterised on/off
etc...
Annotation scale cells their creation and how to use effectively...
Custom menus and interfaces through dgnlibs
Custom workspace configs for specific project clients with custom specific standards..
Again these are for future advanced training SIGS but I thought I'd get in early.. but the links thing is good for maybe the sig after accudraw as while it is an advanced topic it is pretty easy once you see how then you'll want to use it all the time and keep finding new possibilities for producing interactive Drawings!
