My company is going through a revamp of our guideline on how we recieve drawings and models from our vendors. As of right now we are using V8i SS3. I have been searching all over to find out how far back someone can create a dgn that will work seemlessly with SS3. Right now our guide say 95 but I am certain that won't work. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

Because its not autocad you can open all and any stored old dgn files irrespective of the version with the current version of microstation..
The only exception is a VAX or Unix format storage material ie formated disc with unix dgn needs to be converted to MS dos format but the dgn is still dgn
just MS dos cant read the disc physical format not the data... I used to do this alot in late 80s export VAX main frame unix dgn files to pc msdos floppies all the time....
those exported floppy 5.25" disks would still be dgns that mstn could read today only problem is those old disks probably badly deteriated after 25-30 years and where you going to get a 5.25 " drive to load on these days? that works on modern pc hardware....

Here is a sample file from 1988 (pre V8) (the sample was actually from 1983 taken thru the change-over from Intergraph VAX to DOS Bentley)
Only 2 real versions of MicroStation V8- (pre V8 aka V7) and V8+ All M-Sta. has done is taken limitations away and added feature's
I Hope This Helps Someone Reading This! (Intergraph>PseudoStation>MicroStation user since 1980's)
Who drew "that" on Level 5?
I Have NO Idea! It might have been me a LONG time ago. I believe it was accidentally moved from it's original location looking out of portal in Elevation below. File hasn't been modified since 1988.
Somewhere I have an old IGUG CD that has most of the files that Intergraph used to place on a customer's VAX when they set it up for the first time. There were a few files that were corrupt and No version of MicroStation could open. But the last time I checked, most of them opened fine on V7 and V8.

you can still repair these with v7 and run EDG in Dos...hopefully ....
There were a number of files that had contents that were not of much real use, so I was never interested in trying to repair them. They were mostly useful for nostalgia.
