I would be really grateful to receive some help on a frustrating problem I'm having with Microstation.
I have just installed (for the first time) Microstation v8i on a Macbook Pro (OS Mavericks) that has Parallels and Windows 7 installed on it. When I try to draw a line it just shows up as two tiny points - one at the start and one at the end of the line. Similarly for a shape, circle, smartline etc it just shows the nodes. I have tried changing the line thickness, type and colour but this does nothing. It is possible to select the line or shape and when I do it highlights the handles at each end, so I know there is something there.
Additionally when I do a print preview it shows the line or shapes as solid, which is great but I can't draw much without being able to see what I'm doing as I go along! I have tried opening an existing drawing file from another project and this is showing in the same way. i.e. only the points underneath where a handle would be are visible, but with no line in between. For a line this is a small dot at the start and end and for a curve it is a series of small dots.
I've tried changing the view attributes and the display styles but this hasn't made any difference.
If someone can help resolve this for me I would be SO grateful!
Many thanks in advance
Hi, could you show us by attaching a screenshot? So you do not see anything but the tiny points? Have you opened some of the delivered sample files? Are they OK?
You may want to post the file here so that others can open and experiment with the file. Are you in a 2d or 3d file? Try using zoom extents if in a 3d file. There may be some clipping planes hiding your elements.

Thank you for replying. Yes I can only see the tiny points. I am not sure how to open the sample files I'm afraid?
Here are a couple of screen shots showing a drawing of a building, with just dots showing at each node. The second one is more zoomed in than the first.
Please let me know if you need any more information.
It doesn't seem to be a problem with the file as the same drawings open normally on other computers, it seems to be my version of microstation. It is the same whether it's a 2D or 3D file. There are no clipping planes, I've checked that.
It's the same story whether I create a brand new file or open up existing files (which are fine on other computers) - all of the lines and shapes become dots!
Thank you for your input.
One thing I notice from your screen shot is that the background is white and your active color looks to be white. Try to change your background color to black and see if that works. You can change the background color to black by going to <Workspace <Preferences <View Options and uncheck Black Background->White. Are other PC's set to a white background also? Obviously this would would not be the issue if others are set the same.
