I would be really grateful to receive some help on a frustrating problem I'm having with Microstation.
I have just installed (for the first time) Microstation v8i on a Macbook Pro (OS Mavericks) that has Parallels and Windows 7 installed on it

Re: MicroStation v8i ss3 (on a Macbook Pro) lines not displaying

Create a file in notePad. X9.cfg with the following line.

how to use QV_D3DVERSION system variable is discussed and described many times on this web, just search for the variable name, so there is no reason to repeat it in detail again. In general, you have to create a new Windows system variable QV_D3DVERSION and set it to 9. When you will start MicroStation again, it will be initialized with DirectX 9 interface, not DirectX 11.

May be this description can help you, it's from my web, but be aware it's automated translation of Czech page to English, so the quality is not perfect ;-)

With regards,

From reading the other thread you linked to I strongly suspect this is the problem I am having.

Would you be able to guide me through how to force Microstation to use DirectX 9 instead of 11 please?

Many thanks

based on this discussion about runing MicroStation using Parallels 9 on OS Mavricks, I guess the problem can be the same as DirectX emulation in Parallels seems to be not 100% compatible with Windows. You can try to set QV_D3DVERSION = 9 as Windows system variable as mentioned in that thread to force MicroStation to don't use DirectX 11 but DirectX 9.

With regards,

THe other is listing as a shape but it is so small I can't zoom to see exactly what it is. I can see through Element Info that is has 4 segments to it. When I open the file there is a black background (your screenshot is white background). The only way I do not see an element is if it is the same color as the background.

Are you using a customized workspace? If so, try to open the file in a Microstation supplied workspace. Does this fix the problem? I see nothing out of the ordinary.

Re: Microstation v8i ss3 lines not displaying

Hi there

I've just drawn some lines in a file - which I cannot see unless I click on print preview - and here it is as a dgn file, attached. Hopefully you can figure out what is going wrong!

While screenshots are welcome, and confirm what you are seeing, a DGN file would be better. We can all read a DGN file and would be better able to check various settings to see if we can figure out what's going on.

If the file in question is large, or contains confidential data, then copy to a new file and delete 90%. We need only a few lines to provide clues.

Re: Microstation v8i ss3 lines not displaying

Hi mwlong

Try to change your background color to black and see if that works. You can change the background color to black by going to <Workspace <Preferences <View Options and uncheck Black Background->White. Are other PC's set to a white background also? Obviously this would would not be the issue if others are set the same.

Re: Microstation v8i ss3 lines not displaying

Hi mwlong

It doesn't seem to be a problem with the file as the same drawings open normally on other computers, it seems to be my version of microstation. It is the same whether it's a 2D or 3D file. There are no clipping planes, I've checked that.

It's the same story whether I create a brand new file or open up existing files (which are fine on other computers) - all of the lines and shapes become dots!

Thank you for your input.

Hi Gerd

Thank you for replying. Yes I can only see the tiny points. I am not sure how to open the sample files I'm afraid?

Here are a couple of screen shots showing a drawing of a building, with just dots showing at each node. The second one is more zoomed in than the first.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks
