Hi
I would be really grateful to receive some help on a frustrating problem I'm having with Microstation.
I have just installed (for the first time) Microstation v8i on a Macbook Pro (OS Mavericks) that has Parallels and Windows 7 installed on it. When I try to draw a line it just shows up as two tiny points - one at the start and one at the end of the line. Similarly for a shape, circle, smartline etc it just shows the nodes. I have tried changing the line thickness, type and colour but this does nothing. It is possible to select the line or shape and when I do it highlights the handles at each end, so I know there is something there.
Additionally when I do a print preview it shows the line or shapes as solid, which is great but I can't draw much without being able to see what I'm doing as I go along! I have tried opening an existing drawing file from another project and this is showing in the same way. i.e. only the points underneath where a handle would be are visible, but with no line in between. For a line this is a small dot at the start and end and for a curve it is a series of small dots.
I've tried changing the view attributes and the display styles but this hasn't made any difference.
If someone can help resolve this for me I would be SO grateful!
Many thanks in advance

Create a file in notePad. X9.cfg with the following line.
QV_D3DVERSION = 9
Place the file in ms\config\system\ Folder
Or
In parallels VM config set graphics to Directx9
Hi RPMBP,
how to use QV_D3DVERSION system variable is discussed and described many times on this web, just search for the variable name, so there is no reason to repeat it in detail again. In general, you have to create a new Windows system variable QV_D3DVERSION and set it to 9. When you will start MicroStation again, it will be initialized with DirectX 9 interface, not DirectX 11.
May be this description can help you, it's from my web, but be aware it's automated translation of Czech page to English, so the quality is not perfect ;-)
With regards,
Jan

Hi Jan
From reading the other thread you linked to I strongly suspect this is the problem I am having.
Would you be able to guide me through how to force Microstation to use DirectX 9 instead of 11 please?
Many thanks
based on this discussion about runing MicroStation using Parallels 9 on OS Mavricks, I guess the problem can be the same as DirectX emulation in Parallels seems to be not 100% compatible with Windows. You can try to set QV_D3DVERSION = 9 as Windows system variable as mentioned in that thread to force MicroStation to don't use DirectX 11 but DirectX 9.
When I open the file I can see there are 2 elements drawn. 1 is just some lines drawn in a random pattern. THe other is listing as a shape but it is so small I can't zoom to see exactly what it is. I can see through Element Info that is has 4 segments to it. When I open the file there is a black background (your screenshot is white background). The only way I do not see an element is if it is the same color as the background.
Are you using a customized workspace? If so, try to open the file in a Microstation supplied workspace. Does this fix the problem? I see nothing out of the ordinary.
